Today in Techniques in Illustration, we were doing practice cross-hatched drawings of items from observation. I was drawing this skull and I momentarily zoned out and started thinking about everything at once. I was worried about how I had no money, about how my dream school was a reality check and it was more like a good school with low-life administration, how I am sad that I’m 8 hours away from my boyfriend and 6 away from my family and old friends I miss dearly. And then I heard this voice whispering to me, “Everything will be okay. It’s all okay.” I don’t know what voice that was, but I heard it and it convinced me that yes, everything will be okay. I almost cried and almost smiled, but neither happened. It was this weird crisis/non-crisi I had and I’m confused yet comforted by it. I feel like I have some form of emotional attachment to this piece now because of that. But it’s really ironic because skulls usually make people think of death but this skull made me think that hey, maybe it’s right. Maybe everything is okay.
Lucy Loo Wales
The Crazy Mind Behind Lucy Loo Studios ARTIST: Lucy Loo Wales I am currently attending Rochester Institute of Technology to major in Medical Illustration. I sell many products on my Etsy Shop and do commissions to make money for college on the side of working two jobs. I have always had a passion for art and I can't imagine a life without it. I am also trying to sell many of my originals in order to pay for college. Some personal things, I have a black and white cat named Rorschach who I adore along with a few fish tanks (really like 4 or 5.) I work at a shipping store and Joann Fabric and Crafts. My favorite artist is Jamie Hewlett, so obviously my favorite band is the Gorillaz. My best artwork usually comes out best after midnight for some reason. I like to be outside in the winter, the summer seems to make my depression worse. I miss volunteer work, but it's important to eat every week and pay for tuition. I'm also a bit of a scatterbrain if you haven't noticed, but I get things done quickly and efficiently and usually all at once because I am such a scatterbrain. I also have a Deviantart, Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube if anyone ever asked how to do certain things pertaining to art. Please contact me through here, any of the other sites, or through email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for reading!
